New Book Cover Launch

Book Cover Launch

After several attempts and chats with Ana my cover designer,
I was delighted with the end product.

And the whole book!!

I am so glad that I decided in the end to commission a designer that worked within and around my ideas for the cover of The Book of Souls. It wasn't an easy decision to change the design from the original cover but I needed my book to have the best chance it could amongst all the other fabulous novels out there. For several months, and since the first book launch with the more simplified, original cover which I'd designed myself, I decided to do further research on the genre of young adult novels to see what I was up against, and it was then that I knew I needed a more attractive design.

Action had to be taken. Decisions had to be made.

What I needed was a cover that would standout, be eye catching, contain something of the story within its pages, and that's exactly what I felt Ana did with her work.

So now the search for the graphic designer had begun and 'oh boy,' there were loads of them out there on the World-wide Web.

The first websites I came across had book covers already designed for you. These started at low prices and worked there way up to a higher price. All that you needed to do was register and then decide on the closest image which suited your story, (this wasn't as easy as it sounded and for me, I really couldn't find the right cover then suited my story.) Once you the author had decided on a design, you would then add your title and your name, and 'hey presto,' it was done. I actually loved some of their designs and did think that I might invest in a cover, and then work on the novel afterwards. "I wonder how many authors have actually done this."

There were also quite a few sites that I found where the author would pitch their ideas to the website company and once you've decided on which price bracket you were prepared to pay, the graphic designers would enter into a game, fighting for your custom with their dazzling artwork. The advantages to this idea, I think, was that you got to view several artists  and their ideas all together and all in one place. Fantastic, I thought, and the images that were offered at the different prices were always very professionally approached. It's a great idea for those who are okay with the gamble of it all, except for me, it didn't feel the right thing to do on my first novel. But then what is the right thing or the right way? Every one is different and will go with their heart.

What did I really want?

I wanted the personal touch. Someone to talk to. Someone who would listen to my ideas but also know what was out there within the genre of my story-line. That’s why I chose Ana out of the five book-cover designers I had spoken to. Studying Ana’s webpage and the covers which were on there, I noticed one thing that stood out more than all the others I'd researched before. She really represented what the author’s story was about, at least that’s what I felt and saw in her designs. Working with Ana on the cover has been both a learning curve for me and also a great deal of fun as I watched her put some of my ideas into a cover which represented the story within the pages of my novel. Ana is a true professional to work with and I would recommend her to anyone.

The books finally arrived and the cover looks amazing
and feels as if it has a light rubbery texture to it due
 to its  super-matt coating,
Thanks Completely Novel for all your support.
